Welcome to the new school year and to 6-8 Math! My name is Heather Harvey and I am looking forward to getting to know each of your children over the next few months. This year will be my 16th year teaching at St. Paul's. I hope your family had the chance to spend quality time together over the summer. My family and I have been spending a lot of time outside swimming, gardening, and visiting family. My daughter, Alison (5), is very excited to start kindergarten at SPS this year.
Our math books are consumable, your child will have two workbooks that are textbook and homework all in one. The book has an online format I will be listing the codes on this website. This is very helpful if your child forget the book at school. I will send a sheet home on how to use the codes. Your child will have homework every night, but will also be given time in class to begin it. Each week your child will be doing a "countdown" assignment of 5 problems this is to help get them ready for the "smarter balance" testing that is coming in the future. They will also have a problem solving component to help them think outside the box.
Be looking for information about our Curriculum Night coming soon. We will explain your child's schedule and expectations for all the Core classes. This will be a great overview of the year.
I am available for extra help before school (by appt) from 7:20-8:00 most mornings. I am also available after school in the homework room on Thursday 3:15- 3:45. Other days after school can be arranged if needed.
I am also the Student Council adviser. Student Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 3:15-4:00. The schedule of dates will be on the school calendar you will receive at registration.
7-8 Middle School Curriculum night is Monday, August 29 in Denning Hall from 6-7.
