PRINCIPAL’S PONDERINGS You may have noticed the new signs we placed along Rusholme Street this morning. We ordered these reminders because of the concerns we shared last week regarding drop-off and pick-up procedure violations. While some of these rules may feel minor in the moment, they exist for one reason: the safety of our students, staff, and families , and we need your help. Please take a moment to review the pick-up and drop-off expectations below, and be sure to share them with anyone who transports your child (grandparents, childcare providers, neighbors, older siblings, etc.). We all live in a fast-paced world, but drop-off and pick-up is one place we cannot afford to rush. Thank you for taking your time, staying alert, and doing your part to keep everyone safe. Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures Mr. Connors WHAT’S NEW Enrollment for 2026-2027 Past Due Re-enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is now past due! We have about 15 families who have NOT completed this process, and are in jeopardy of losing their spot. You must do 2 things to complete the registration process: 1) Log into the link below using your Powerschool user name and password, then click on the “UPDATE” button next to each child’s name and go through each screen (your information should already be populated). IF YOU HAVE TO ENTER EVERYTHING MANUALLY, STOP! You are creating a duplicate record and we will have to deny it. Please make sure everything is up to date (primary contacts, emergency contacts, etc. as this information dumps into PowerSchool). It is imperative that we have contact information for all primary contacts (parents)/guardians in case of emergency. Click on this Link to re-enroll: https://portal.sccsiowa.org/ If you have forgotten your username or password, please email katee.bates@st-paul.pvt.k12.ia.us . Please do NOT create a NEW account by hitting the “get started” button. Current families must “LOGIN” (in the upper right hand corner) to update their accounts. If you have a new student that you would like to add to your current family profile, select add new student once you have reviewed your current student’s information. Make sure to submit at the end. 2) Pay the Registration fee If you have a child currently in Kindergarten - 8th grade, you may use your ESA marketplace funds to pay the $150 enrollment fee for 2026-27. Log into your Odyssey account and click on “View balance”, then on “view marketplace”. Click on the search button at the top (magnifying glass icon on the right hand side) and type in "Registration". Then click on the SCCS Registration Fee Logo and add to your cart. You should receive an email from Odyssey that says “thank you for your purchase”. This process will have to be completed for EACH child. Odyssey will then transfer the money to SCCS - no need to let the SPS or SCCS office know that you paid via Odyssey. Each child has to use their own funds. If a child doesn’t have enough money in their account, you will have to pay out of pocket. If you have already paid through Blackbaud, but would rather use ESA funds, go ahead and complete the ESA payment, and then money you already paid via Blackbaud will be applied to any balance you have due (lunch or aftercare, for example), or refunded. If you do not have marketplace funds, please login to your Blackbaud account and once you have selected a student, select “purchase optional items” at the top center of the page and select the 2026-27 enrollment fee. ********** Mass and Divine Mercy Chaplet This year, we're encouraging junior high students to attend *Friday morning 6:30 AM Mass before school AND/OR *Friday Divine Mercy chaplet at 3:00 after school (should last about 20 minutes). We will provide donuts and a place for the kids to hang out between Mass and school. Please consider these special opportunities (not required) to help your child grow in their faith with SPS teachers and community members! Of course, parents are welcome!! PRINCIPAL’S PONDERINGS February, the longest short month of the year. Somehow it’s the only month with fewer days and more attitude. One minute we’re cruising through the school year, and the next we’re asking, “Wait… how is it only February 11th!?” (And also, “How is it already February 11th!?”) The weather can’t decide what it wants to be, our routines are strong but our patience is being tested, and the calendar is packed even though the month is not. And yet, February still brings so many good things: students settling in, teachers pushing forward, and families doing the daily hero work of getting everyone up, fed, and out the door. As we make our way through this longest short month together, let’s remember to dress in layers, stay hydrated, and be extra kind to classmates, to staff, and to ourselves. Hang in there everyone. March is out there somewhere, probably hiding behind the next snowflake! Mr. Connors WHAT’S NEW Pick-Up and Drop-Off instructions We have noticed a concerning trend during both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up: some K-8 students are being dropped off or picked up on Rusholme Street. This creates a significant backup, disrupts our normal traffic flow, and has nearly led to several accidents. PRINCIPAL’S PONDERINGS Holy sickness! We have seen a rise in students being sick in all schools across the Scott County. Here are some helpful tips for parents. When your child is sick, please help us keep everyone healthy by keeping them home if they have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, a persistent cough, or symptoms that are worsening or prevent them from fully participating in school. If symptoms are severe, don’t improve, or you suspect a contagious illness such as flu, strep, or pink eye, please contact your doctor. If your child is seen by a doctor, please provide the school with a note so we can document the absence and support any needed restrictions. Your child may return to school once they have been fever-free and symptom-free (vomiting/diarrhea) for 24 hours and are feeling well enough to complete a full school day. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community safe and healthy. Each child has to use their own funds. If a child doesn’t have enough money in their account, you will have to pay out of pocket. Tuesday, February 3rd from 8:00 to 10:30 is the 7th grade science fair. Students have worked for two and half months researching, setting up, and experimenting on a topic of their choice. I am seeking adult volunteers that would be willing to judge several seventh graders' overall experiment, presentation, report, and display. This would all be judged using a provided rubric. One request I have is that if you are the parent, grandparent, or directly connected to any seventh graders you are kindly asked not to volunteer to keep judging as fair as possible. St. Paul the Apostle will no longer provide ibuprofen (Advil) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) to students. This adjustment aligns with the recommendation of the Scott County Health Department. If a student comes to the office with a headache, we will recommend they drink water and return to class. If they return and symptoms persist, we will contact home. During the second semester of this school year, we will continue to provide Advil and Tylenol as needed, but we will be more selective and encourage water first. This year she was hoping to have us help with a Family focused basket for families in need to include hygiene/family items/food items for Christmas. There is a sign up genius of items to help fill the 15 baskets. Items can be brought to the main office or Mrs. Harvey's room by Wednesday, December 10. Laundry Basket Project Cafe on Vine - We are collecting warm items for Cafe on Vine for Christmas Eve. We are looking for warm hats, gloves, socks, scarfs, coats, boots and thermal under clothes. Items can be dropped off in the 8th grade hallway. The student council will be hosting a Christmas Eve lunch at Cafe on Vine and provide desserts and snack bags. ***************** Home and School News Panther Perks for the Holidays The season of gift giving is here. Next Tuesday, we will be sending home a “Panther Perks for the Holidays” flyer so you can donate to a Christmas gift certificate for your children’s teachers and staff.
